Who are they?

Oceana Canada is a leading force in ocean conservation, operating as part of the world's largest international advocacy group focused exclusively on protecting our seas. Their mission is to safeguard Canada's vast marine ecosystems through strategic policy changes at the federal level.

To amplify their message and foster a community of ocean advocates, Oceana Canada utilizes a strategic social media approach that includes regular posting of engaging carousels and reels, sharing timely ocean-related news to raise awareness, and providing updates on ongoing campaigns. Their primary objective is to transform online engagement into actionable support

The problem:
Oceana Canada works with scientists, non-governmental organizations, the federal government, Indigenous Peoples and the fishing industry to study and protect marine habitats through expeditions and advocacy efforts. Taking this data-heavy material and turning it into digestible, engaging social content was key to seeing growth on their channels.

Results
By incorporating social content geared at each social platform demographics, leaning heavier into video content, and shifting into topical news-related posts Oceana Canada saw:

  • Instagram engagement increased by 555%

  • Impressions increased by 1,082%

  • Surpassed annual Facebook engagement goals within 3 months
